Dotted Line 03:17
They're whispering my name on the radio They're whispering my name on the radio Taillights color my body red Taillights color my body red I could drive all night Just to get away And I'd follow every single dotted line I saw a million people swallow holes I saw a million people swallow holes Buildings fall and buildings rise Buildings fall and buildings rise I could drive all night Just to get away And I'd follow every single dotted line

I take the long way I like to go slow You're on the jetway Go-go-a-go-go, oh But if you leave me today I just want to say That when you're up in the sky Where the birds don't fly Where the sun don't hide Where the clouds say goodbye It's there you'll realize I'm the one you love I dream of springtime You take the fall I ask for nothing You want it all But if you leave me today I just want to say That when you're up in the sky Where the birds don't fly Though they've often tried And they sometimes cry It's there you'll realize I'm the one you love

Drama Queen 03:29
In my building is a woman I call the Drama Queen She was yelling at her boyfriend saying things obscene Then she cried all through the night and in the morning time She was knocking at my doorstep She was ringing on my bell chime Teeny, tiny crocodile tears running down her face Every wound and every scar is in a perfect place Oh, Drama Queen You're ruling over me You've memorized all the lines And bring me to my knees Oh, Drama Queen You come so easily But before you make an exit girl, you've gotta make a scene And the very next weekend, it all happened again She was yelling at some guy, saying this is the end Then she cried all through the night and in the morning time She was ringing on my doorstep (What!?) She was knocking on my bell chime Teeny, tiny crocodile tears running down her face Every wound and every scar is in a perfect place Oh, Drama Queen You're ruling over me You've memorized all the lines And bring me to my knees Oh, Drama Queen You come so easily But before you make an exit girl, you've gotta make a scene

Hey, you looking for a party? Well stay right here. 'Cause it's going to come to us Look up above It's getting closer The lights are flashing That is the secret code to climb aboard Slip off your shoes please Here comes the captain He's 12 foot tall and green with style to spare He mashes down all the buttons and we fly in the air O wuh o we gonna have a good time O wuh o check out the stars O wuh o it's the goodtimespaceship We gonna freak from Venus to Mars Don't look so nervous Take in the wonder Hey now we're floating It's gravity's way of setting us free Turn up the music Turn up the power Infinity's another number, man Flip it upside down and grab what you can O wuh o we gonna have a good time O wuh o check out the stars O wuh o it's the goodtimespaceship We gonna freak from Venus to Mars We are exhausted We heard some voices Alien angels in a choir singing songs so sweet I feel like I died and gone to heaven We see you Can you see the way We see you Can you see the way O wuh o we gonna go all night O wuh o check out the stars O wuh o it's the goodtimespaceship We gonna freak from Venus to Mars

Check the payphone for some lucky cents The whole contraption's filled with presidents Headphone sidewalk doesn't hear the screams Canyon comeback echoes the machines Rivers of blood and a terrible, swift sword Prepare the way of the lord No time for classifying tiny masses Expert window tribute in stained glasses Rivers of blood and a terrible, swift sword Prepare the way of the lord Remember the man on the mountain, The man from the mountain top? Well he's now in the movies Relaxing on the corner lot What a scream Intellectication charges double Burn the message and inhale the trouble Rivers of blood and a terrible, swift sword Prepare the way of the lord

The motor's running and the lights are green If I get there tonight I can check out the scene Racing downtown to make history On these teenage freeway dreams Looking for a sweet sensation Looking for a sweet sensation Our faces shining in the golden time A scratch and a dent, we're still dying for wine Racing downtown to make history On these teenage freeway dreams Looking for a sweet sensation Looking for a sweet sensation Midnight is coming I'm burning for a sweet sensation I'm looking for a sweet sensation Midnight is coming

I turned around to see the snow It was floating past my window And I smile And I sigh 'Cause it feels like peace at last You came along and filled an empty chair My heart is whispering all my secret prayers And I smile And I sigh 'Cause it feels like peace at last Please, oh please don't pass It always seems it's just beyond my grasp But not today The sun is here, the snow melts away And I smile River's running through a brand new day And I sigh 'Cause it feels like peace at last

Let's sing a song, a song about love A sweet melody with harmony Let's sing as song, a song about love And dance along Let's sing a song. a song for all time It's never too late; you know the words Let's sing as song, a song for all time And beat the drum Nighttime and the fire's burning low There is pain the world don't you know So let's all join hands Daytime and there's dust in the wind Celebrate the beginning and end And let's all join hands Let's sing a song, a song about love A sweet melody with harmony Let's sing as song, a song about love And dance along

I'm just a monkey in a mask Wearing track suit pants Watching a black and white movie Sometimes I lose all control Because I sold my soul When I first saw you There's so much love in my heart There's so much love in my heart But I can't make you mine King Kong Blues We climbed to the top But it was me you dropped I saved all the papers There's so much love in my heart There's so much love in my heart But I can't make you mine King Kong Blues Chains chains chains So many chains Chains chains chains I'm wearing the chains I'm doing everything I can To be gentle like a man I know I'm not perfect But then I lose control Because I sold my soul The first time I saw you There's so much love in my heart There's so much love in my heart But I can't make you mine King Kong Blues

I remember the first day of class At James K. Polk Elementary School Jonathan Goldstein was his name them on the roll I was the one supposed to show him the ropes Things change all the time People change all the time Well pretty soon we were as thick as thieves Rollerblades and lemonade and silent films I remember when he got two black eyes I applied the ice packs, it was no surprise Things change all the time People change all the time Things change all the time People change all the time Plowing full throttle we'll make it through the Garden State Five miles to the gallon my Nissan will take us away Called you last week still had your mom's number I figured you'd be home, home for the holidays I said, "Goldstein, it's me" and he said, "Who?" I said, "Never mind, I guess I have the wrong number"

My voice is sling blade sliding back to the black My hair is razors spilling out of the pack My body's shaking, I've got three kinds of skin Pom-pom's pounding 'cause the walls are too thin And I say, hi, hi, floating by Signal to the sky And I say diamonds will be dimmer when we die We bury ourselves I conquered Norman he had nothing to give I strangled 30 so that 40 could live I hatched a body out of peppermint sun I flew to midnight on a double-ought gun And I say, hi, hi, floating by Signal to the sky And I say diamonds will be dimmer when we die We bury ourselves Coffin, coffin who got the coffin? I don't think much of you but I think of you often Everything I love is automatically beautiful You hit me like a fresh pharmaceutical One-hit wonder with a two-bit brain Your mouth opens up and I lose my train Avalanche high, arms to the sky And we dance We bury ourselves And I say, hi, hi, floating by Signal to the sky And I say diamonds will be dinner when we die We bury ourselves

I wanna be right there Between those two yummy arms It's so cold over here Why don't you keep me warm? I'm getting hungry But not for pizza Something's growling but it ain't in my belly So kiss me 'til Tuesday Honey don't be shy My willow stopped weeping But my well's run dry Don't skip over Monday You see the look in my eyes So kiss me 'til Tuesday And honey don't be shy I keep trying to relax I'm tired of chanting, "Om" Let's go climb the nearest ocean And call a seashell our home I got a fever And you're the doctor Cure me sweetly with your cuddles and smiles So kiss me 'til Tuesday Honey don't be shy My willow stopped weeping But my well's run dry Don't skip over Monday You see the look in my eyes So kiss me 'til Tuesday And baby don't be shy I just wanna dance Gimme those kisses This is our big chance Gimme those kisses Kisses! So kiss me 'til Tuesday Honey don't be shy My willow stopped weeping But my well's run dry Don't skip over Monday You see the look in my eyes So kiss me 'til Tuesday And baby don't be shy

Circle Song 03:16
He gave away everything he knew And headed west To follow the sun To follow the sun Into the sea He roared in the mountains and whispered in the desert He lived for free To follow the sun To follow the sun Into the sea He took off running when the coast was clear And jumped into the ocean and disappeared How do you say goodbye? How do you say goodbye? He gave away everything he knew And headed west To follow the sun To follow the sun Into the sea

My hand's know the sorrow I can't be at home When bridges fall down Outrun the rain Patterns swallow my thoughts And secrets decay It's bittersweet Pretending to believe It's bittersweet Pretending to deceive Oh, the fires are burning I've got many matches La la la la la la la la la la la la Listen to the wind blow Hollow its confessions It's bittersweet Pretending to believe It's bittersweet Pretending to deceive

I had an '88 Corolla A twinkle in my eye A girlfriend overseas Who found another guy Tell me why? Oooowee, I stumbled over to the corner store Bought loaded up with every box of wine Ooowee Buck Owens on the stereo Where did 1997 go? Lincoln Lincoln, I’ve been thinking Is it really true What ol’ Sandburg wrote about how You used got so blue? Tell me true Oooowee, I was so rough around the edges Touch me and I'll cut you like a knife Ooowee, Hank Williams on the stereo Where did 1997 go? Dissolving in the La-Z-Boy Stirring up the grief Shaking from the memories Rinse out and repeat I swallowed a pool courage To call her one last time She heard my voice, said "Konichiwa" And cut the line Auf wiedersehen! Oooowee, I stumbled over to that corner store Bought loaded up with every box of wine Ooowee Buck Owens on the stereo Where did 1997 go? Oooowee, I was so rough around the edges Touch me and I'll cut you like a knife Ooowee, Hank Williams on the stereo Where did 1997 go? Please tell me: where did 1997 go?

Haven't heard your voice since last Friday Where in the world have you been hiding? I need you so bad The pressure's rising and my head is spinning Locked in a game and no one's winning I need you so bad I've been here before I know this feeling Seeing the truth But not believing Please oh please Just tell me what comes next Stay tonight, stay forever Too many words are as light as a feather I want you so bad Love is patient, love is kind But love I just can't read your mind I want you so bad I've been here before I know this feeling Seeing the truth But not believing Please oh please Just tell me what comes next Is there gonna be a heartbreak? I've been fooling myself Is it gonna be a heartbreak? I need you too bad There's gonna be a heartbreak I've been fooling myself There's gonna be a heartbreak I want you too bad I've been here before I know this feeling Seeing the truth But not believing Please oh please Just tell me what comes next

You know, the world moves at such a quickened pace You boot up, you login, you press a button And pretty soon you're out in cyberspace But I know a girl with her feet firmly in place She's prim and proper A little on her guard Goes to church on Sundays Grows peonies in her yard We went out on a date She sent a "Thank You" card My old-fashioned girl She plays Canasta Penny a point to win Just drinks one cocktail Any more would be a sin She's in bed a 10:30 Man, she just won't let me in My old-fashioned girl Sadie Hawkins' Day Canapes Postcards from Coney Isle High-collared shirts A fountain pen that works No time for rock-and-rolla She's got Django on her Victrola She dance the foxtrot Always let's me lead Bought me a jacket Says I'm toothsome in a tweed She's self-possessed She's got everything she needs My old-fashioned girl My old-fashioned girl

It's fam time, it's fam time Tell your mothers and your brothers and your sisters and your fathers It's fam time, it's fam time Ding-dong What? You're already in. A holiday, a Sunday, anyday: a funday! Or is it? Well... let's just see It depends on the mood of your mama The fantasy team of your papa He's sly checking out the score Mama's flashing, open the door We're eating green bean and ham There would be toast but we're still in a jam Hussein Obama can't mind the store We can't afford to have four more (years) And I said, "Yes we can!" ('Cause I'm a Democrat) It's fam time, it's fam time Tell your mothers and your brothers and your sisters and your papas It's fam time, it's fam time Ding-dong What? You're already in. A holiday, a Sunday, anyday: a funday! Or is it? Well... ahhhhhhhhh Is your sister's boyfriend a thug? Is your brother's girlfriend off drugs? She snorted up grandma's ashes Now she doesn't have any eyelashes Someone says the word, "apportion" Papa thought he heard, "abortion" He spat out every kernel of corn And said, "God loves the unborn!" And I said, "No he doesn't!" ('Cause I'm an atheist) Sound off: F! A! M! Fam! F stands for "Fun" A stands for "Angst" M stands for "Marone! What are you people doing in my living room, eh?" You're already in! It's fam time, it's fam time Tell your mothers and your brothers and your sisters and your papas It's fam time, it's fam time Ding-dong What? You're already in. A holiday, a Sunday, anyday: a funday! Or is it? Well... It's fam time, it's fam time Tell your mothers and your brothers and your sisters and your papas It's fam time, it's fam time Ding-dong What? You're already in. A holiday, a Sunday, anyday: a funday! A holiday, a Sunday, anyday: I still love my family!

In the hills of Pennsylvania there are many, many mines Abandoned long ago In the hills of Pennsylvania there are many, many mines Abandoned long ago So take a flashlight Flashlight it's got to shine on If it fades away You're lost in the dark In the hills of Pennsylvania there are many, many mines Abandoned long ago

I wrote the lyrics so the tune had best be sweet My baby's dancing she can really move her feet A bass is thumping and the drummer's keeping time My heart's a bumpin' when she says she's mine all mine The moon is humming and the stars are bouncing high She is my morning coffee, my evening sky Oh, I could have sang another song Where everything just turns out wrong That would have been another tune Where the guitar wails out under a new moon The frogs are croaking and the 'squitos nip and bite They buzz for us 'cause the melody's just right This song is older than the story that it tells One look at her and the locusts turn to bells Don't write the music down just play it as it comes Our love's the notes, our hearts will be the drums Oh, I could have sang another song Where everything just turns out wrong That would have been another tune Where the guitar wails out under a new moon Crickets take it over, chirp till the morning light It's time for bed and I am gonna hold my baby tight

Rebel Lover 02:53
You're drawing devotees You do it with such ease Showing no fatigue So why did I pledge allegiance? Rebel lover Rebel lover Rebel lover The jungle weeps tonight Make up a brand new math To build a shining path No bubbles in her bath Her rhetoric had no logic Rebel lover Rebel lover Rebel lover The jungle weeps tonight You overthrew my body When you stormed the gates And took no prisoners You overthrew my body Coup d'etat in the fifth degree Now you won't walkie talkie And the rescue helicopter floats on by Rebel lover Rebel lover Rebel lover The jungle weeps tonight Radio radio radio my rebel lover!

Sometimes I wish it would end Sometimes I wish it would end But I know that it's going end anyway And I've got to take what's here today But sometimes I wish it would end Now don't you worry I'm just as good as can be But today has delivered the hard news And a little misery And I'm gonna bounce back Until I can't bounce back no more But I'm getting tired of getting up and getting down Yeah I'm tired of getting up just to get down Yeah I'm tired of getting up just to get down Sometimes I wish it would end Sometimes I wish it would end But I know that it's going end anyway And I've got to take what's here today But sometimes I wish it would end

We could have built a beautiful city We could have built a beautiful city Glass towers to the skies We could have a rah-rah team And worship it on Sundays Glass towers to the skies All the prisoners lean out their windows And wish they hadn't burned their notes Not a scrap of grace Not a scrap of grace Not a scrap of grace could save us from the craze Poetry Always skipped over Always skipped over Not a scrap of grace Not a scrap of grace

I was flat on my back, deep down a hole Lost in a world of pain I heard her voice, I saw her smile She lifted me up And said, "I'm with you once again" She's my Cowgirl Angel From Texas A rodeo halo love She's my Cowgirl Angel From Texas Two-steppin' in the stardust above So she cooled all my thoughts, I lived in her heart Singing the songs we used to sing About bluebonnets and Stetson Sonnets And the green, green Hill Country On the very first day of spring She's my Cowgirl Angel From Texas A rodeo halo love She's my Cowgirl Angel From Texas Two-steppin' in the stardust above Morning spilled on the floor, we finished our coffee And knew that she had to leave Back to the One who gave her life Who gave her the faith That to love is to believe She's my Cowgirl Angel From Texas A rodeo halo love She's my Cowgirl Angel From Texas Two-steppin' in the stardust above

I'm going to Alabama to find my baby there I'm going to Alabama to find my baby there Drinking cherry bounce in her rocking chair I'm going to buy my baby a pure-bred hunting dog I'm going to buy my baby a pure-bred hunting dog Sniff out them rabbits right through that pea-thick fog Gonna give her money for a brand new cotton dress Gonna give her money for a brand new cotton dress With red stripes on it to match my Sunday best Then I'm gonna plug that ipod And turn way up the noise Blast the cabin with the Lovin' Spoonful, Bread and The Beastie Boys Cut that cane, cut it right down to the ground Boil that sugar, boil until it's brown It still ain't sweeter than this love that I have found

The Glow 03:13
Yeah, I saw you the other night Standing by the pool at Johnny Fox's Waiting for the bathroom Your eyes met mine... and then looked away Girl, is it gonna end like this? Me over here You over there People in between us Let's make a memory Under the neon light It's where I go To feel the glow Don't hold back give me all you got Don't hold back give me all you got Don't hold back give me all you got Say you're mine And yeah, it's just another deja vu When I look at me and you Falling in and out People in between us Let's make a memory Under the neon light It's where I go To feel the glow Don't walk away from all my memories Don't hold back give me all you got

Letter on the table Written in your hand "It's not you, it's just me I hope you understand Life's been crazy crazy Like a wheel that won't go round And I can't get close to you or anyone Don't know what's lost or what is found" You gave me your new address To forward me your mail I knew that you were hurting Didn't know you were so frail There I am Knee deep in sympathy Getting off On your misery There I am Flew to California Drove the 405 Wanted to show up at your place Just to see if you're still alive Parked the rental across the street Nearly hit the floor That's when I spotted the dude in the linen suit Knocking at your front door You opened up so quickly And invited him inside Something in the way you touched his face The light inside me died There I am Knee deep in sympathy Getting off On your misery There I am Saw an open window Climbed a desert palm Made my way to your bedroom I'd never felt so calm You both looked up with such surprise And I cried Here I am There I am Knee deep in sympathy Getting off On your misery There I am

Everybody's racing at the speed of sound Racing at the speed of sound Just one more song and I'll be gone Thank you and goodnight

about

I wrote and recorded a new song every day in January 2011. Because I'm crazy. And somewhat underemployed.

My blog describes the day-to-day process: marshallyork.tumblr.com

Please browse! The order follows the days of January. Buy the album and shuffle it like a deck of cards. Beware the ace of spades.

NOTE: "Cowgirl Angel form Texas" is a song I wrote in memory of my friend Michelle Tull Bynum who died too young from breast cancer. She was extraordinarily selfless and an inspiration to many people. All proceeds from this song will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
