about

Co-written with Douglas York

lyrics

I wrote the lyrics so the tune had best be sweet
My baby's dancing she can really move her feet

A bass is thumping and the drummer's keeping time
My heart's a bumpin' when she says she's mine all mine

The moon is humming and the stars are bouncing high
She is my morning coffee, my evening sky

Oh, I could have sang another song
Where everything just turns out wrong
That would have been another tune
Where the guitar wails out under a new moon

The frogs are croaking and the 'squitos nip and bite
They buzz for us 'cause the melody's just right

This song is older than the story that it tells
One look at her and the locusts turn to bells

Don't write the music down just play it as it comes
Our love's the notes, our hearts will be the drums

Oh, I could have sang another song
Where everything just turns out wrong
That would have been another tune
Where the guitar wails out under a new moon

Crickets take it over, chirp till the morning light
It's time for bed and I am gonna hold my baby tight
